You see, there's an unwritten rule in such battles: don't put Tactics in the front rows :). But besides this favorite hero, you can protect him with Magic Resistance, artifacts with that ability, or monsters. And it's not a given that Disintegrator will get to do its job, because usually, the morale and speed of monsters are much higher than that of heroes, especially with a heavily armored Tactics.
