And another question, can you choose a starting hero? Maybe I don't like the look of the one I get, and I want a different one, but I don't want to go to the tavern.

Starting hero where? In multiplayer or in the campaign? In multiplayer, you can, you just need to create a new hero from your dynasty. And in the campaign, you can't choose the face, but you can choose the class :).
