And yes, "the advantages of previous games" is an ambiguous concept. For me, a plus is that in the fourth game, you could take two or three heroes and roam around without an army, enjoying life, while other people consider this a minus.
And also, it's good that they removed the random element with skills in the sixth game. I fully appreciate this now, when I'm plagued by nostalgia for the third Heroes and I'm trying my best to avoid skills that are completely useless to me. However, the implementation was flawed. It would have been much better if they had given separate points for learning spells and separate points for skills. Because even in the third Disciples, they didn't manage to distort magic in such a way.
