Moral needs don't make a person weaker or less intelligent. They are dictated by reason and will.

1) Explain why I didn't become smarter by absorbing and using a vast amount of information and by gaining valuable experience in many areas of life?
2) Hmm. The Christian code of conduct is a moral need for many, although creationism, subtly linked to it, makes a person less intelligent.
And yes. Moral needs don't negate the fact that people need to test new drugs on animals first. Mathematical modeling doesn't work; medicine is phenomenological.
Experiments on humans are even less moral.

Considering that attempts to consume synthesized organic matter indirectly harm the body, adhering to the ideal of rejecting non-synthesized organic matter (a moral need) makes you weaker.
