These Native Americans simply ran out of calendar space. Did any of these Native Americans personally say, "*damn, the world will end in 2012!"??? A person is, in a crude sense, a herd animal; one crazy scientist who was excavating said something like that, about someone's end in 2012, saying that the Native Americans would have created a calendar that lasted until the end of time (9999999999999999999999999999... year). If these primitive people's calendar ended on a different date, there would be the same nonsense, for example, in the year 4000 or 2062.
