Why do you think they're not needed? They are! Imagine, for example, the Mortal Kombat series without Scorpion, Liu Kang, and Sub-Zero! I've always been in favor of the old and the interesting new, because when something is missing, the project immediately suffers in many ways (it was very sad for me when I couldn't find a single familiar face from the heroes in Heroes 5)!
