I don't know about the "awfulness" – maybe some people find offline play unappealing, but that doesn't mean offline players should be ridiculed as a group. As for the "tediousness," I'd argue the opposite; the last few games have been quite dynamic and varied, compared to your favorite (or least favorite) Heroes of Might and Magic game.
