Do you always take this stance: "it's easier to pretend to be clueless and let people prove things themselves" instead of trying to understand the situation properly?
A player is not obligated to know the Value; it's not specified in any rules. And in such a case, knowledge becomes a burden and actually leads to problems (and the fact that the balance is off is just a specific instance of this). If the problem (or its solution) is not described in the rules, then the situation favors the player, as there is no formal violation.
