We could simply revert to the rule where the day ends immediately after the required number of votes is reached, and avoid unnecessary complications.

Mafia is returning to its roots – removing notes, using simple sets, and closing the day early... I'm not against it. Besides, the townspeople will have an extra reason to think, instead of immediately accusing whoever the mafia is trying to eliminate.
