Ahem, well, Tolkien didn't create many of these stereotypes. For example, "dwarves only use axes and hammers, and don't use bows," and I don't remember any animosity between dwarves and elves. Sauron was more of an infernal evil, a kind of malevolent spirit, rather than a clown in armor.
