You need to start acting when you have completed the quest for the Death Knights. As soon as you can, capture the second city - Necropolis - and "awaken" the vampires. Then, start your offensive against the orange faction (if the difficulty is "Recruit," they will only have one city). Raise as many undead as possible! As soon as you break through the yellow faction's garrison, return for reinforcements and finish them off. The Avatar of Death can help.
