In reality, the "not a noob" character can hardly put up a fight; more often, it's a 3-on-1 situation or even more.
When I was in school, a typical "noob" started his first year, and naturally, all sorts of lowlifes started picking on him. One day, we were in class, and this "noob" was sitting at a desk next to me, while a "not a noob" was sitting behind him, constantly poking him with a pen and trying to provoke and insult him. Right in the middle of class. The "noob" turned around and asked what he wanted, telling him to back off. The "not a noob," feeling emboldened, continued to provoke and insult him. Suddenly, the "noob" punched the "not a noob" right in the face with a powerful blow. It was a very epic sight, with blood everywhere. Then, some guy, maybe 25 years old, with an intellect slightly above that of a vegetable, came and beat up the "noob." That's what happened. But is that really a challenge? It's like going to a kindergarten and beating up the kids, or in Heroes of Might and Magic, ganging up on a hero with a single imp and then celebrating.
