If the result is the same, it means that a few creatures have died, and they can be resurrected using either a quarter or the entire resurrection scale. Plus, it seems there's a percentage involved. Regarding the level for improving skills, I'm not sure; I'll be playing on August 9th (with the new update :)), and we can discuss it then.
