I only managed to get money because I got lucky with heroes in the tavern. First, Nagash appeared, then Ain, and after that, Jhelar (although a water mill and a leprechaun's garden also appeared). And I also captured a town, right on your territory. I had few resources myself, so I simply traded for liches on the market, and I spent all my money on purchases, ending up being extremely poor (if you had reached the town and defeated my garrison of only four Death Knights, you could have won, as there were many valuable unpurchased items there). In general, I need to take a look at your zone; I don't think you were in worse conditions than I was, because I had almost all the valuable resources blocked by strong ranged units (or hordes of hydras and wyverns), while you had a lot of goodies protected by slow mobs.
