Yes, skeletons are powerful, but a Lich-Vampire-Rider combination is still much stronger.
Not always... you can't quickly build up this combination (I'm not considering the Lich cloak option)... and you can be taken out fairly quickly with 1-2 explosions. But 10,000 skeletons are simply impossible to defeat.
