If I were to put it in my own words: "Books are for learning something useful that helps in life, like a DIY guide or a textbook on driving, and everything else is completely pointless!".

And generally, the statement: "Flowers are planted either to be planted or to be trampled underfoot" sounds absurd, don't you think?

It's absurd, almost as absurd as:
"The logic of life is based on life and death; spending time on games under these conditions is illogical."
"Although, I don't know how it was for you; maybe you come home in a suit of armor because Heroes 5 is still going on."
"They're not memorable because they're bad; they're not memorable because you didn't play them in a way that would prevent you from losing."
