What does the Duke have to do with it? He only chooses the target, not the difficulty level.
The point is, if I were the Duke, I would seriously consider the option of "not sending the order" that night. It's better for a Knight to watch how a Sorceress takes a herbal bath than to run around the corridors in a fit of rage.
