Yes, the film doesn't quite live up to expectations. In some ways, it even resembles Black's work with its somewhat chaotic nature.
I haven't read everything, but I've read a lot, and I liked almost all of it.
I read "The Draft" and "The Clean Copy," but... "The Draft" is good, with an interesting beginning and premise, and I really enjoyed it. However, "The Clean Copy" is banal, like all his less impressive works. The ending and the second half of the book are an absolute repetition of his works from the 90s. "Star Shadow," "Lord from Planet Earth," and "Labyrinth of Reflections" all have the same ending as "The Clean Copy," where the hero receives overwhelming power and rejects it in favor of an ordinary life, now valuing it greatly. The ending is good in itself, but it's overused.
