No way, you don't forget something like that. The place where I did my internship was the village of Sosnovka, 50 kilometers from the city. Interestingly, pine trees have not existed in Kamchatka for two million years (as a person who wrote a thesis on the topic of "Description of Meso-Cenozoic deposits of Kamchatka using the spore analysis method," I am absolutely sure of this). I will never forget that thirty-person tent, heated by one stove and leaking in the rain. I will never forget those wonderful 8 points around the camp, located in groves and swamps. I will never forget the three-meter measuring rod, and other devices, including a theodolite and a level, which our team nicknamed "Artyom" and "Naomi." The three-day drawing of a tachymetric map is also impossible to forget, because, as the one who understood mathematics the best, I was entrusted with most of its execution.
Damn, you were lucky!) I would give a lot to spend time in nature like that, it doesn't matter if it's a forest or a swamp, the main thing is a friendly atmosphere :) In our second year, we were promised planned evenings in gardens outside the city. But in the end, thanks to the good deeds of our university, for which it was fined a couple of million, we stayed for our internship in the city. It's a pity, of course, but we can only hope that the trip will be compensated in the future, but we didn't give up.
It all started with the fact that I dropped the theodolite a couple of times, but, in fact, only after that did it start working properly ;) Then, since no one but me knew how to work with it, I evenly distributed the functions among the team - I appointed a secretary, a deputy, and someone who runs for bread (very important!). As a result, in two days we surveyed a 6-point polygon with 90 additional points and, out of boredom, started splashing water on each other from the tap. In general, we did all sorts of nonsense, drew on the walls, and then went to the nearest store to sell the level case, because it looked very much like an armored breadbox. However, the saleswoman didn't believe that we were from a teleshop, even after 15 minutes of persuasion. But in general, it's clear that everything didn't turn out as epic as it would have been outside the city, but we shouldn't blame fate either; we must make the most of what we have.
It's good that it's a summer internship; I hope the next one won't spoil this impression.
