So, I really didn't want to answer all this, but I will anyway.

It's just historically сложилось, and more people currently have ICQ.

Traditions didn't just happen; it's only the post-Soviet space that's stuck on ICQ. Skype is used all over the world and has many more fans. Plus, Skype is used for business and is more reliable.

What's the problem with having both ICQ and Skype? They don't interfere with each other. I have both installed.

Having both doesn't cause any problems, but what's the point of having so many messengers?

But if it doesn't bother you, then go ahead and install it. Considering that I prefer Skype, and I don't need it anyway. And in general, you should switch to Jabber :-)

A normal, open protocol supports good encryption, and the failure of someone else's server doesn't affect you, unlike that crappy ICQ. But Mail.ru decided to shut down the servers, and you're left sitting there... and wasting half a day.

Maybe I'm not in the loop, but are there still people with slow internet connections? Is this really a problem in our time?

You really are out of the loop, but it's a huge problem, especially in villages...

I don't see the point in arguing about ICQ vs. Skype vs. something else. They're right, ICQ is already traditional for Heroes, so why invent something new, or why wouldn't someone just use the in-game chat, which is also a good alternative :)

Indeed, if someone wants to keep using that crap, I can't stop them. And there are a lot of problems with ICQ, and no arguments will be in favor of it.

And the voluntary-compulsory registration in only ICQ format is just TERRIBLE!
