Maybe I'm just out of touch, but are there still people with slow internet connections? Is this really a problem in our time?

Looks like you're not up to date; cannibalism still exists, there's still heavy manual (non-automated) labor, and even slow internet connections :-D
by the way, this will continue for a long time. What's there to talk about? ICQ appeared before Skype; it's logical that there's more content there. Don't forget about the well-known reluctance to switch to other means of communication if the old one works. Why should we, for example, look for other ways to connect for a game if we can play comfortably through one particular method?
