Oh, for crying out loud, here we go again with the genre debates. The whole system of genres, subgenres, and pseudo-genres is essentially flawed. It's like the classification system in biology: a real, natural (based on origin) system of organisms exists in a formal sense (in nature, animals don't divide themselves into classes, orders, or families), but no one has developed it, and it's unlikely anyone will. All human-created systems are, to some extent, artificial. And yes, most metal (and not just metal) bands don't bother thinking, "Let's create some post-black-death-neo-classical-progressive-hardcore metal; that'll be cool!" All those composite names are just templates for journalists to use when they ask the standard question, "How would you describe your genre?" To avoid going off-topic, here's a relevant clip. The overall idea isn't particularly original, but the presentation is impressive. And the music is for those who are tired of standard metal/punk/"alternative" (choose as appropriate).
