Why do we watch movies of the "horror" genre?

Well, why do we watch movies in general? Everyone decides for themselves what meaning a watched movie has for them. As for fear, real fear comes only in life, and no normal person will be afraid of rubber zombies. Psychology, mysticism – that's more interesting; there's something to think about.
