In the press and in everyday life, the term "pedophile" is often incorrectly used in relation to all criminals who have committed a sexual crime against minors-^[8] However, pedophilia is not a synonym for sexual abuse of children.^[9] Not all pedophiles are inclined to commit sexual crimes against children.^[10][11] The majority of these individuals only satisfy their sexual needs in appropriate masturbatory fantasies, by communicating on the Internet, or by watching visual content of a corresponding nature.^[12] At the same time, the majority of sexual crimes against children and adolescents are committed by individuals who meet the diagnostic criteria for pedophilia according to DSM-IV.^[13]
