Well, by the time of the first confrontations, it's rarely possible to level up any element. Even Earth is taken at level 4 not so much for confrontations, but rather for Utopians and final battles. Because the father figure is usually level 6-10 by the time of the first confrontations, it usually only becomes possible to fully develop a school at the expense of acquiring useful skills.
