Why not? You don't exactly strike me as a cheerful person, even though you rarely complain about anything. On the other hand, both descriptions could apply to me.
Yes, I might complain about something and so on, but that doesn't stop me from being a cheerful optimist and a jokester, even if I'm not a very good one.
