How does the "force field" spell work? As I understand it, dragons cannot break through the field, but enemy archers can still shoot without any problems. What about other units? Are there any other situations where it helps, besides blocking access?

There is no way to verify, but it seems that Cerberuses only bite three units if they are standing next to each other, and the bite is directed at the unit in the middle. This means that Cerberuses can only damage the attacked hex and two adjacent hexes (one on each side).
