I wouldn't say so. There's a genre called technofantasy, and Void (the old Might and Magic universe) is a clear example... The old Heroes monster collection is, in many ways, a copy of D&D.
In short, nothing is new...

The old universe died with the 3DO, and I'm glad for Ashan. If UbiSoft had continued the old story, I'm sure it would have been an epic fail. Only one person could have handled the old universe: Jon van Caneghem. But by refusing to participate in the development of the 5th installment, he killed part of his great creation. So let Ashan rule the series.
