I'm playing the licensed version from a disc, and even after closing the settings window, a different template is created, even though all the others were deleted except for one that I need.

I've never had a licensed copy, and I haven't had any problems with templates either. The problem is most likely either with the template file itself or with its location.
Upload your rmg.txt file here, which you are trying to use to create the map, and also provide a description: map size, number of players, template name. Someone will check it on their end.
