Hmm, what about the Bible and other religious texts? They describe demons... and these mutants don't really look like demons. Besides, there are quite established standards and principles. When you see a demon in Heroes 5, it's immediately clear that it's a demon! But when you see a mollusk from Heroes 6, how can it be considered a demon?

Have you already finished reading the Bible? And besides, what does the Bible have to do with it? Demons are a kind of abstract embodiment of universal evil, having thousands of forms and appearances. As was correctly pointed out above, the infernal nature and evilness of these creatures are beyond doubt, which means they are demons. And a devil is just a well-established image from fairy tales; it was missing in the new Heroes games.
