As far as I know, you don't really investigate for clues, you just make assumptions like "I know I'm definitely going to get this role!" and "Something's suspicious about these *list*, I'm sure they're mafia!". Well, your suspicions have sometimes been correct, but it's not like you have a prophetic gift. So, it's better to offer your own clues if you think mine are unconvincing. Or maybe it's just convenient to think that way to cover for "your" person.
