This isn't about "Kyle going after Xostor," but rather that he died alongside him.

My idea was that Xostor could have been a musketeer protecting Kyle, and Kyle was a cabin boy checking on Xostor. This would explain the gunpowder residue near Xostor and why Kyle had a young head.
