Which is better, attacking or defending?

I play as the Academy. I've tried both, and I find that defense is much more effective for me (I play on large maps against the AI, using maps from the Tapani-RMG generator). My hero is Ora, with light magic. The longer they stand their ground, the more I can strengthen my troops, and it's also easier to resurrect them.
