Honestly, I find this anime rather bland...

Let's chalk it up to the fact that a couple of Miyazaki's full-length films, the aforementioned "Rain," and a season and a half of Sailor Moon (my brain couldn't handle more) aren't enough to draw objective conclusions about the quality of any anime.
And, of course, there's my favorite saying: "beauty is in the eye of the beholder."
