Absolutely all fantasy has a connection to Tolkien. In every fantasy world, there are references, geographical, ideological, plot-related, or of any kind, to Middle-earth.
Heroes of Might and Magic is not Middle-earth, but it is fantasy. It is not appropriate for fantasy to feature orcs as Papuans, and so on.
