Did you know that HALF of EVERYTHING in Heroes 5 was copied from the Warhammer universe?
Ugh, the word "you" doesn't quite fit with that tone :) As for plagiarism, in fantasy, a lot of things can be considered plagiarism. The same swordsmen, for example, or any other unit. There's a person with a sword here, and a person with a sword there. Or dragons. Yes, Heroes borrowed a lot from other sources - from various folk mythologies, fantasy books, and games - and, as a result, it turned out to be an amazing game ;)
Workers - the wall repair mechanic (this is already deep into programming... and tactics. How do you defeat them in a city)?
Wall repair... Ideally, the developers themselves can do a lot with the game engine, but simple modders can't, of course.
As for tactics - I already said - they are far from the healthiest in terms of HP. You can shoot them down to death :) And there's no need to refer to the possibly small number of ranged units in the attacking army - if it has few ranged units, it still has a good chance of winning. The point is different - this is their original feature, a feature of the Dwarves. A new word in the technique of defending and attacking castles
Castles won't become impregnable. They can still be taken by storm. In general, for balance and realism, the best solution would be this scheme: in one turn, workers can only restore half of the wall. You, of course, remember that a catapult first only damages the wall, and then destroys it. So, you can make it so that a Dwarf can only repair a partially damaged wall. In this case, he is capable of two stages of repair:
- Which removes damage to a wall that has already been damaged by a siege weapon, but not completely destroyed. A wall that has been destroyed to the ground cannot be repaired.
- If there was a tower on the wall and now it is just a damaged wall, then the Dwarf will restore only a regular wall without a tower.
- The main, central tower also has stages of destruction from a catapult, there are about three of them. In short, it cannot be repaired when completely destroyed, but it can be repaired when damaged.
Regarding golems:
A tech race can have golems too... BUT WHY CALL THEM GOLEMS SO OBVIOUSLY??? (Plagiarism of the name, not the concept!)
Well, you can call them technocrats, mechanoids, or metalheads. However, I'm not a fan of this unit anyway :]
AND WHAT'S WRONG WITH FLAMETHROWERS FOR YOU???
Well. I didn't say that I didn't like them or that they didn't suit me. Of course, at first, I had a bad opinion of them: I was unhappy with the appearance (two barrels on the back, are they life-size? And a hose that looks like a gardening hose? No, really, the appearance can always be changed) and the not entirely clear (how does it shoot?) characteristic. Also - they strongly resemble a Fire Mage.
Now it's a little better - immunity to fire. If I were creating a unit from scratch, I would do it like this:
- The unit would not be a full-fledged ranged unit, but could only shoot 3-4 cells forward and to the sides. But it would not be able to shoot at a longer distance; it would have to walk to catch the target in its firing range. I thought about this before, and now it seems like a good idea.
