I've read the Bible, both testaments. I've read many apocrypha. And I can say that love is one of the key elements of all religions, not just Orthodox Christianity. However, no one lives solely by love. And in general, the Bible, especially the New Testament, is so sanitized that it's almost sickening. It's better to read the apocrypha; they truly express honest opinions without censorship. Also, I highly recommend reading "Hard to Be a God" by the Strugatsky brothers. And finally, if God loves everyone, then why are there hell and purgatory? Would you torture your children if they didn't take out the trash?
