I ended up watching the Russian adaptation of the Strugatsky brothers' novel "Roadside Picnic." I hadn't wanted to watch it before, but I just finished reading the book yesterday, and I became curious to see the movie.

I watched the movie in the cinema, only the first part. In general, my opinion is that it's as Vikhr said, but two, three, four... times worse.
It was a long time ago, and everyone was talking about it then; I'll mention it again.
1) The image of the main character is certainly colorful, but the acting is not just bad; it's practically non-existent. :smile32: Vasily Stepanov portrays most of the emotions in the film with a silly smile.
2) While watching the film, I simply noticed many obvious editing errors.
3) Serebryakov's performance is undoubtedly worthy of praise.

5) We went to see the film with a person who remembered the book's content very well. As it turned out, he found many inconsistencies in the film, which arose because Bondarchuk changed the plot of certain scenes or cut out something very important without changing other events.
6) And most importantly: the Strugatsky brothers' book was very deep, meaningful, and relevant (and still is). Bondarchuk (and how did he manage to do this?) preserved the author's text but completely removed all the meaning. That is, the film is just a typical modern action movie.
7) P.S. and they didn't explain to the audience what "Massaraksh" means. =)

In general, the film is pointless to watch without reading the book. :smile01:
