There are several times more of them on the map than the quest requires. The only thing that can happen is that someone else will destroy them first (even the player himself).

No, I took this quest at the very beginning of the game both times, and I didn't touch a single archer before taking the quest. Okay, the quest isn't critical (anyway, the elves given as a reward can only be converted into ghosts), so I replayed and just didn't take this quest. But Gotti really rocks! Protection against Chaos and the yellow player is defeated automatically!
