The minor details of the other creatures might have been changed, but a complete overhaul is unlikely. The race fits the description of LaBuelle very well – three women (medusas, spirits, geishas) and one sexless mutant (kappa). The creatures existed before, but they mutated (naga – wave warrior, medusa – coral maiden). The creatures are wingless and don't appear to fly, but there are doubts about one of them (apparently, about the snow maiden). Not all of them have legs.
And the kappa corresponds to mythology – it even has a water-filled depression on its head.
