No, it's just much more interesting to play when, in addition to you and your opponent, there's also a micro-world. (for me)

The game lasts longer than without AI, but it's more interesting. It reduces the chance of restarting due to an unfavorable encounter. The color indicates whether it's a "general" AI (green, brown) or "your" AI (orange, purple), which simplifies the strategy.
