You won't be able to figure out "Heroes" in half an hour. You need to play for at least a week, non-stop. Read a fan-made guide, try everything that's written there. I was generally thrilled with the game for quite some time (far longer than a week). The graphics, initiative, creatures, mages, the leveling system... it was all simply magnificent. And only later did I start comparing it to the WOG version and find flaws: the computer takes an incredibly long time to make its move after three or four months of playing on a huge GSC map, there are too many identical artifacts on huge GSC maps (I only play such maps), and as a result, you can collect three or four "dragon" sets, there are no truly worthwhile artifacts that, when possessed, can turn the tide of the game (like the "Archmage's Hat" or "Tome of Air Magic" in "Heroes 3"), and it's very difficult to level up two or three heroes, which doesn't allow for "guerrilla" warfare and reduces the game to a single final battle... But you don't understand all this right away, and only in comparison with another game in the "Heroes" series (I compared it to "Heroes 3" and WOG).
