No one mentioned Thunderbirds and Champions; on S maps, they provide a significant advantage due to their high numbers (especially Champions, with a Lord possessing nobility of class 2, you can get 9 of them in 2 weeks, which translates to 1350 HP compared to 800 for a Chaos Demon, plus support from Life Mages). Thunderbirds, thanks to their lightning attacks and mobility, will also cause more problems than 4 Hydras, Beasts, or Chaos Demons. Again, if the enemy army relies on strong spellcasters, such as a Chaos Mage or a well-developed Tactician, then there is nothing better than Devils – with good morale, they can eliminate the enemy mage with an immortality potion by the beginning of the second round.
