Ayreon - Dawn of a Million Souls

Album: Universal Migrator

Plot

The Dream Sequencer

In “The Universal Migrator, Part 1: The Dream Sequencer,” Arjen returns to the story of “The Final Experiment” and the year 2084. Twenty-eight years have passed since the last world war destroyed Earth, as predicted by the blind bard Ayreon in the 6th century (Ayreon's first album, The Final Experiment).

While Earth was engulfed in a devastating war, a small group of colonists were on Mars, observing the destruction of Earth from there. For many years, the colonists survived solely on supplies from Earth, but after the war began, the supplies stopped, and most of the colonists died. The main character is the last surviving person in the colony, born on Mars and never having seen Earth.

To somehow diversify the Martian leisure activities, local scientists created the Dream Sequencer, a device that allows colonists to immerse themselves in memories, including past lives, through hypnosis.

With this device, the protagonist relives his youth on Mars, and then he is overwhelmed by visions of his past incarnations: he experiences the life and death of a woman who died in the Earth war, and the moon landing in 1969, becoming a flag bearer posing for Rembrandt for his painting “The Night Watch.” But the visions take him even further into the past. He defends England as Elizabeth I and watches as the English fleet sets out to battle the Spanish Armada, and as a girl from the Mayan tribe, he witnesses sacred ceremonies in Tikal.

It is then revealed that the Colonist, in one of his past incarnations, was the minstrel Ayreon, and in an even earlier incarnation, he was present at the construction of Stonehenge. In his very first incarnation, he was the first person on Earth.

Flight of Migrator

“The Universal Migrator” continues the story of the last person surviving on Mars. After the events described in Dream Sequencer, he wanted to continue his journey and see the moment before the appearance of the Universe. The Colonist witnessed the Big Bang and the creation of the first soul – the Universal Migrator. This soul split into many other souls, which went in search of planets suitable for life.

In the Dream Sequencer program, the Colonist follows the soul flying to Earth. In his journey through the depths of the Cosmos, he encounters many astronomical phenomena, such as quasars (the specific quasar 3c273 is mentioned), pulsars, supernovae, black holes, and space-time tunnels. When he finally reaches the solar system, the Dream Sequencer program overloads, as the colonists had never dared to travel so far in time before. The Dream Sequencer desperately tries to awaken the Colonist, but it is too late – the Colonist dies in the machine. Then the Universal Migrator says to him: “Eternity lies before you. You are the new migrator.”

За всем следят машины благодати и любви.
