I'm not even sure, after reading your post, whether you've actually used the random map generator even once, or if you're just repeating other people's words without understanding their meaning. The random map generator is called that for a reason – it generates RANDOM maps – and the maps generated in it contain a lot of unexpected surprises (both pleasant and unpleasant), which makes the game even more exciting. But spending hours creating something unplayable in the editor, and something you already know inside and out... No, of course, there are pros, but even they create maps more for others than for themselves.
As for saving time: if you want to save time, then it's better not to play games at all.
