Negative effects cannot be applied, which is important, although there are not many positive ones either.
Protection from negative effects is exactly what is needed, and positive effects are completely useless - although this was done for balance (it is already the strongest creature in the castles in terms of stats in Heroes 4).
By the way, in "Heroes", all troops deal only physical damage, so immunity to fire will not save the phoenix from a dragon's attack :).
And what about hives, poisonous creatures, ghosts, medusas, thunderbirds... should I continue? And phoenixes, ifrits, and other fire creatures attack with fire, and phoenixes have 50% immunity to fire, so this is the best way to fight against Black Dragons.
