I checked – after capturing the Chaos Gates in the "Riddle of the Sphinx" mission, you can't return to the city through the gates; they won't let you, but you can use the city portal spell. However, even in this situation, after defeating the green elf, you can't return to the sphinx; they won't let you. As a result, I had to beat up the elves until I captured their gates – 250 green dragons and a blizzard of other elven units didn't help them. I completely crushed the green player, but I still didn't get a level up: I remained at level 32.
If anyone doesn't believe that this is possible, I'm posting a screenshot of the map:
This is before capturing their last city; as you can see, the green player no longer has strong units, and their city poses very little danger to me. But even so, there's still nothing to use to level up the player. The Chaos Gates are insignificant without a hero; just a few titans are enough to defeat everyone, and the sphinx with his army is even less of an obstacle. I have no idea where to gain more experience so that the hero can reach at least level 33.
I fought for another half hour, took everything the green player had (cities, mines, creature breeding sites, and even the gates), but the computer didn't display a message about the green player's defeat (it's a miracle!).
I passed through the Chaos Gates without any losses, except for all the djinn. I stopped in front of the sphinx; I can also attach a final screenshot.
There's nowhere else to wander on this map, and nothing to use to level up: :smile35:.
