Undead is not a race, but a state.

Let's talk about Ashan liches. Based on my impressions from "Heroes 5," a lich is a dead mage who "hates all living things," seeking to harm the living and bring about death. Undead are non-living beings, so the race of undead is the race of the dead. Necropolis is such a race, which is quite understandable and requires no proof. For these reasons, liches must be dead!!
