I've said it many times before that the Lich was described as a still-living necromancer, referring to the developers' page on Facebook.

And here's a description of the vampire, which also clearly states that the lich dies and is reborn as a vampire.

A living lich in the undead faction? Unlikely. Maybe this isn't about a unit, maybe it's about a hero-mage? It's just a race of undead:mad! But then there could be living spiderlings too… No, something is wrong here. Or it's unclear what they did with the race… I hope not.
