Yes, I played absolutely terribly, especially since on the respawn there were external dwellings of elves and unicorns, which I took on the first week. But I had very little money, and all the secondary skill outputs were ranged. As a result, in a fit of madness, I charged a horde of crossbowmen with a horde of my Centaurs and Neelka, and was punished :) as a result, the elves were left completely without cover, and then I struggled. On the second week, it seemed a chance appeared — I took two Dragon Fly Hives on turn 13, but while I was running through a secondary town on a long path to the treasure zone, the opponent arrived.
